INTRODUCING MERSEYSIDE ALLIANCE FOR RACIAL EQUALITY
(MARE)
Merseyside Alliance for Racial Equality is a nonprofit Community Interest Company that aims to promote racial equality and a fairer Merseyside.

We were established in 2020 in response to the global Black Lives Matter Movement and work in the community to empower and support black and ethnic minority people.

It is important, now more than ever, to strengthen and unite our whole community. The 2016 EU referendum result caused a sharp increase in racially and religiously motivated hate crimes around the UK. In 2016, the number of racially and religiously motivated hate crimes was 44% higher than in 2015.

We aim to end the cycle of racism by educating against the biased and harmful undercurrents within society. We believe an inclusive and spacious movement is essential, to ensure that all voices are heard. We also believe that in order to win and bring as many people with us along the way, we must ensure that we are building a movement from the bottom up.

We affirm the lives of Black LGBT+ folks, disabled folks, undocumented folks, folks with records, women, and all Black lives along the gender spectrum. Our group makes space for, and centres, those who have been marginalised by society.

We are working for a world where Black lives are no longer systematically targeted for demise. We affirm our humanity, our contributions to this society, and our resilience in the face of oppression.
